CARES news release - October 2007
The services that care for sick and premature babies in
the UK are being increasingly stretched to breaking point by a lack of nursing
staff, according to a report published today by BLISS – the premature baby
charity.
However residents of Southport and Formby etc are actually in a worse position
than that stated by BLISS due to the fact that our maternity services have been
taken away to Ormskirk.
Andy Cole, Chief Executive of BLISS, said:
“BLISS is concerned that the Government still gives less priority to intensive care for babies than for adults and children, even though all the evidence points to a neonatal service that is on the brink of collapse."
CARES have to state that we in Southport are again in a worse position that that
expressed by BLISS for we have lost out children’s A&E facilities to another
county.
Southport parents and children have been placed in a ‘Third world’ status by
ludicrous NHS cuts and it’s not good enough. We shall continue to demand that
our youngsters are given proper health service attention by this belligerent
government and the NHS.
