CARES recently expressed deep concerns over
the NHS Trust‘s threat to remove 28 beds at Southport. Since this news hit the
press, anonymous hospital workers have been anxiously contacting CARES,
expressing the fear that their jobs may be next to go.
Cath Regan, CARES Co-chair, states:
“In the minutes of the meeting of the Southport & Ormskirk hospital NHS Trust’s
Finance & performance committee, held on 31st March 2008, they report a very
challenging £8M+ Recovery Plan. They carry on to report of some services
possibly having to close temporarily only to be reinstated after the 3 month
period.”
Cath Regan, CARES Co-chair
CARES ask:
What guarantees have we that these services will indeed be returned? We presume
one of the cuts is to be the removal of the 28 beds-this has not been reported
to be temporary. Are we seeing NHS double talk and spin here?
In light of the information we continue to receive from insider hospital
sources, CARES remain very apprehensive and sceptical concerning the ‘temporary’
removal of any more of our health services.
We reiterate........
Are jobs at risk?
