Southport CARES © about children
28th August 2003
From the founder members of CARES
Dear
CARES originated from a parent movement on the basis of three key objectives and principles agreed at a public meeting 25th June 2003. These were, and still are, to campaign for the reinstatement of our Children’s A&E department, Maternity Unit, and children’s ward at Southport Hospital. The principles and overarching aims in placing this issue above personal and/or political gain were agreed as the foundation of a cohesive campaign supported by teamwork and collective aims and values.
The efforts that you are now investing on the hospital issue outside the agreed principles of CARES and your apparent unwillingness to consult with colleagues on campaign effort and tactics has led to a breakdown of team working. Our ability to campaign effectively for the reinstatement of our lost children’s hospital services has been impaired. We cannot continue along different paths as one group.
As you have decided to divert your resources elsewhere we wish you well in the direction you are taking. However, the majority view on the steering group endorsed by the chair is that we part company amicably and that CARES will continue with the mandate and aims and principles established by the public. It is a matter of regret that you have chosen another route.
Yours sincerely
