SOUTHPORT’S HEALTH SERVICE CUTS LEAD TO BABY’S DEATH

Baby dies - Southport DGH refuses treatment – according to local chat room website

Tuesday, 14 July 2009

A local chat room called Southport GB.com ran the following story …..

“Paramedics responded to an emergency call at Bank Square, Southport at approximately 1:30am this morning (Tuesday 14th July 2009). On arrival they faced a 4-day-old baby needing resuscitating. Paramedics worked on the child and radioed through to Southport & Formby DGH asking for a doctor to carry on with the treatment. Southport & Formby DGH allegedly refused to admit the child and told paramedics to take the patient to Ormskirk Hospital. The baby died. A post mortem will be carried out later today.”

Ainsdale’s Conservative councillor and Prospective Conservative MP for Southport, Brenda Porter, said:

“This is a nightmare scenario that we have all dreaded. Our first thoughts must go to the parents and we can only imagine how they must be feeling at this time. When will common sense take over and it be realised that a Children's A & E in Ormskirk is not the answer for Southport people. At this upsetting time it is not appropriate to raise other issues but there must be no compromise to us wanting our Children's Services back in Southport.”

CARES send deepest condolences to the family.

Since the outrageous removal of  our Southport Children’s and Maternity services several years ago, CARES have asked what the dictatorial Health Authorities will do when the first child dies, due to this despicable issue.

So far we have been greeted with silence over this concern from the NHS/PCT.

And now?

Prior to this tragedy CARES asked ……..

WHAT ARE THE HEALTH AUTHORITIES PLAYING AT?

“Where is the long awaited and much promised Walk in Centre for our children?”

 We also demanded to know:

“Once again it looks as if our children have been let down by the health authorities. Southport families are still being treated like second class citizens by the NHS.”

Cath Regan said:

“Our deepest thoughts are with the baby’s family at this moment, the precious gift of life should be what we are aiming to safeguard and protect. This should NEVER have been allowed to happen and this is the very thing we have been fighting for, for the last six years. CARES call upon the people of Southport to once again stand up and be counted to stop this ever taking place again. We do not know the actual circumstances yet , but Ormskirk is too far for emergency help for our most vulnerable in society.”

With this latest tragic event the situation is clearly far more serious than many at first thought possible.

We need our emergency services restoring now – nothing less will do!

This has always been CARE major objective.
